About Rescompare

ResCompare is a freeware programmerπs utility that compares resource files. It can also update the resources that have changed, show detailed differences between two resources, and generate a self≠applying patch application that will convert one or more old versions of a file into a target version.

DragInstall 2.0 has built-in support for applying ResCompare patches automatically as part of an installation. DragInstall Patch items provide the mechanism for including ResCompare patches in an installer.

ResCompare is available from the major online services and the Internet. It is also available for download from the DragInstall web site at:

Instructions for building patches are included in the ResCompare documentation. There are two important things to note when using ResCompare with DragInstall: DragInstall supports patches built with ResCompare version 2.5.3. The current version of ResCompare is 2.6 which creates patch files that are not compatible with 2.5.3. Unfortunately, this new version was released after DragInstall had already entered its testing phase, so support for this new ResCompare could not be included in this release. DragInstall will include support for ResCompare 2.6 patches in a future release. When you build a patch with ResCompare, two types are resources are included in the patch application: patch resources and application resources. Since DragInstall takes care of applying the patch, the application resources are not needed. You can strip this application resources out of your patch files before building your installers. All patch resources have types that begin with the letter "Z". These are the only resources needed by DragInstall. ResCompare is copyright © 1989≠96 by Michael Hecht (hecht@vnet.net).
